7th Edition of START-EAT-UP in Lisbon: Recruitment

People were once again at the center: Recruitment was debated at the 7th edition of START-EAT-UP.
START-EAT-UP returned to Lisbon on October 15th, once again filling the CIBT – Estoril Tourism Technology Incubation Center – with ideas, energy, and sharing.
In this 7th Edition, embracing the theme of the previous edition, "The challenges of recruitment and best practices for building teams for business success," START-EAT-UP once again brought to the forefront a discussion essential to the present and future of the sector.
If there's one thing all participants agreed on, it's that people are the restaurant's greatest asset and also its biggest challenge. Finding talent is difficult, but retaining them, motivating them, and helping them grow is the real secret to a brand's success.
When experience meets action.
The Round Table, moderated once again by Luís Azeredo (Co-founder of DIG-IN), brought together professionals from different areas of the sector, each with a different and unique perspective on the highlighted topic:

Ana Arié and José Santos brought to light the reality of two major brands, the Capricciosa Group and McDonald's, which operate with structures capable of hiring in volume, regularly, and for long periods. But more important than the numbers, they shared how, as leaders, they value and care for each of their employees, reinforcing the importance of human culture within organizations.
Andreia Teixeira and Pedro Bernardo presented their partnership with Kitchers, an inspiring example of collaboration between companies and schools. The union between Recheio and the Lisbon School of Hospitality and Tourism aims to train professionals who are better prepared, passionate, and committed to the restaurant industry, contributing to a more solid and qualified future for the sector.
Rita Harries, from merytu, demonstrated how technology can be an ally in the recruitment process. She further explained how the platform helps business owners and entrepreneurs find professionals through more flexible models, promoting a transparent valuation system where the experience and merit of users are truly highlighted and valued.

Recruiting is more than just filling vacancies.
Throughout the conversation, it became clear that recruitment is not just about hiring, but about creating teams with purpose and aligned values.
The stories shared by the speakers showed that the secret lies in combining empathy, training, and technology to build lasting and productive relationships.
In the end, the participants left with one certainty: leading well means caring for people, and it is this care that transforms teams into engines of growth and sustainability for the sector.

A movement that continues to transform the sector.
More than just an event, START-EAT-UP is a movement that inspires, connects, and drives the restaurant ecosystem in Portugal. In this edition, the dialogue between leaders, schools, and companies showed that the path forward is forged together, with sharing, collaboration, and vision.
The ongoing movement and the upcoming edition promise to bring new ideas, new voices, and new solutions to the challenges that unite this growing community.
